no steve lurmac allowed

festivals in this country almost always sucketh. it seems that no matter what, either coldplay or travis are going to headline. there are hardly ever any female musicians on the main stage (last year, i think that peej was the only female musician on). the crowd are also often mean to pop bands because, youknow, they’re just not cool. i mean, come on. in 2000, pop vixens daphne and celeste came on-stage (one in a “where the fuck is eminem” tee) to sing their song “ooh! stick you!” and were greeted by people throwing bottles at them. of course, no-one throws bottles at boring white boys with guitars wailing on about being in trouble and being yellow or whatever. no exciting trashy punk bands play festivals anymore either.
but i digress. this isn’t meant to be a rant. this is meant to be my dream festival line-up.
all the bands i wish i could see at a festival. and this festival would have free water and all rowdy frat boys who wish to mosh, stage dive and grope girls would be banned. steve lurmac would not be allowed in. heh heh heh. there would be lots of lemonade and milk-shakes and everyone would be allowed to dress up in their most glamourous and stylish clothes.
here are the bands i’d like to see the most, in no particular order:
1. the yeah yeah yeahs – because i’ve never seen them live before and i hear that they just rock out and have fun. karen o is beautiful, feisty and wears the coolest clothes ever. if i heard art star live, i swear i’d go insane. in a good way.
2. royal trux – i’d like to see them back together and playing live again, if only just one more time. neil is the best guitarest i have ever seen and jennifer is terrifying in a beautiful way, true stars.
3. le tigre. ok, so i have seen them live a bunch of times but every time has been a moving experience as well as just plain fun. j.d., kathleen and johanna do dance routines and scream about opression at the same time. it is so fucking cool. everyone should see le tigre.
4. the strokes - mainly because everyone has heard the hype about these bois from new york city, but hardly anyone has got to see them live. i saw them at the brit awards and they seemed kind of dull, so i'd like to see how they fare live and up close. ladies like them because they are dirty and cool. they have some good songs.
5. no doubt - i would love to see this band live, and have missed them so many times t's just stupid. i like no doubt a bunch. i would probably ask them to not play "don't speak" because it's boring.
6. the boredoms - they come from the same town as my super-wonderful friend mai. i have been told i saw them live one time in hoboken but i was feeling sickazz-a dog that night and can't remember much about it. everyone who has seen them say that they are very cool.
7. peej - i have never seen peej play live. how lame is that? i think my heart would break if she played any of the stuff from "stories from the city" because it's the most beautiful record. my best friend lj saw her last year at reading (i couldn't go beacuse i was broketh) and told me that she was in nothing but a bra and hotpants and she played "down by the water". wow.
8. tori amos - my boy josh says that she is the best singer to see live ever. he has seen her about fifty thousand times so she must be really good. i like her album "under the pink" very much and i like flame haired ladies who play the piano. oh yes.
9. britney spears - i saw her sing a song with a live snake at an awards show. i have seen her sing songs in a school uniform. i bet there are fireworks at the end of her show. and she dances the whole way through, i hear!
10. blackstar because the song re:definition is one of my all time favourites, and because i heard talib kwali freestyling on the tim westwood show recently and it was amazing! also, i fancy mos def and kwali sounds a little bit like a lady.
11. the pixies - because i never got to see them live and then they broke up. i saw some live footage on a film documentary about the pixies and it was just flooring. kim deal is a genius.
12. pavement - oh just one more time! i miss them.

make a festival line-up of your own! link it in the guestbook so i can come by and see it.
i will know who has won big brother this time tomorrow. i'm sorta going to miss it, but mainly for jade. big brother threw the final four contestants a beach party, and they all just sort of sat around but jade got a glass of champagne, danced and sang (including one she made up about her hammock), ate all the pop-corn and ice-cream she could and just had fun. she is so hott.
