next stop! the laines...

one boy here on diaryland had a huge problem with me putting up the picture of a woman being assualted on april 4th. he doesn't have a guestbook so i guess i'll respond to his comments right here.
this boy seems to think i'm anti-men (because, that's what feminism is according to him). he states, "if you took certain words [oh, say, men] out of your basic feminist ravings and replaced them with other words [oh, say, blacks], you wouldn't have feminism, you'd have racism. let me demonstrate: "men [insert: blacks] suck.""
i have never said men suck. contrary to seemingly popular belief, i like men a lot. i have never dissed boys or violence against men before. i have had people say "feminists suck" to me before but i've never heard anyone say "men suck".
feminism to me is a social movement which fights against sexism. people being wrongly treated because of their gender. that is not an anti-male thang, sweets. it makes me sad that people have to think in such a binary manner, that if a person is for the progression of women in society, then they just have to be anti-men.
it doesn't work that way and the world is just not all that simple.
i hate having to explain myself with this stuff when it's so obvious. but anyway. this boy assumes that all feminists believe pornography is a form of exploitation: "interesting how feminsts will call pornography "exploitation," but the braodcasting of someone being "assaulted" is a-ok if it's used to promote and justify your agenda."
this comment is about me putting up the picture of the woman being assaulted in seattle. the picture to me showed something that is never fucking discussed. six girls were held down and gang-raped at woodstock 1999 in the crowd and nothing has been done about it. these matters must be addressed at least. this is why i put the picture up.
back to this boys' idea that feminists beliveve that pornography is exploitative, it's true that some do. some. yet, it's generally not because the women in pornography are sexual objects up on a screen. to quote kathleen hanna: "the women who work in the industry are a lot of time supporting themselves or their families. there's a big difference between an image of pornography or the pornography or the pornography industry and a women who is basically, in a way, serving a burger just like a person at mcdonalds does. women who don't have the option, who don't have a college education or aren't from the middle class or wealthy don't necessarily have the luxury to turn down a high-paying job like that. it's just offensive when people pinpoint the women in the industry who really aren't making the most profit from it, as the one's that are exploiting men."
i hope this clears up all of the problems this boy had with the picture i put up. oh yeah, one more thing. he says, "most feminists don't seem to know or associate with a lot of men." all the feminists i know (which includes my boy and two boys that i live with!) hang out with boys. especally since most of them are boys themselves. the feminists i know, which is more or less everyone in my life, are cool, tough, feisty and fun. there's a whoel bunch of us. we're all different. to quote celina hex, some of us shave our legs, some of us shave our heads. we all believe that the gender roles in our society are fucked up and lame. that's it.
ok. i'm done. i just want this boy and whoever else thinks bad of me that i am not in any way promoting hate by being a feminist. i am not about hate at all. if he would like, he might find this and this and this useful.
i do not want to have a row with this boy.
i'm all sleepy because i was up all night listening to madonna and playing scrabble with cat and then eating ice cream with mai and then watching adam sandler movies with dan.
i got paid today, and all i wanna do is to leave this library, head into town and buy my my le tigre tix.
yeah.
