bratmobile
sunday went by so fast, and before i even knew just what i was doing, i found myself headed up a spiral stairs and in a little room with bratmobile and donna from team dresch talking about feminism.
it was really that fast. and i sat down, pulled out my silver dictaphone and talked to allison about the riot grrrl movement, while donna told me some good records to listen to which will help for my dissertation.
it was good to talk to allison. and i told her about how i get upset when the nme ignores all my favourite bands; and write scores of articles about the strokes and not a word about le tigre. and she was just like, what's the point of getting pissed off about it? those papers are just run by misogynists who couldn't report the riot grrrl movement with any kind of respect anyway. fuck em. and i think it's just about the best advice i've had in a long time. so, i'll be on tenterhooks for the new issue of venus.
i'll be typing up the interview and putting it into a future zine (but i'm talking way into the future, like this summer), so you'll totally be able to read it all if you want to. is what i'm sayin.
then after a while, she had to soundcheck, and mai was all bold got us on the guestlist. and the first band on were super cool and angry, with an incredible bass player. the second band were so fucking emo that they fell off the stage, weeping as they strummed their guitars. the feedback was hurting my ears so i went outside for some water. and there i bumped into allison again, who was now in a super cool leopard skin mini-dress, and we talked some more about courtney love and some gossipy type stuff.
and then they took to the stage. man.
